The characters are so captivating literally within mere chapters. I was honestly shocked by how drawn to them I was, and the need to know more about them I felt.
Six is so sharp and the way can snap out a biting comment so quickly made me adore her as a character. More than her personality makes her a captivating character however, as her role as a Diviner is so interesting to learn about. The dark Rory was another such character to grab a hold of me from his first moment on the page. He is ill-tempered, clearly having a cross to bear against Diviners and the Omens and not afraid to show it. The interactions between Rory and Six are biting and snarky and stole my heart. I can’t forget to mention the bond between the six Diviners either. It’s so sweet, the way they look out for each other and stand up for one another, wishing only to live together when their 10 years serving as Diviners are up and loving one another. I loved how they all interacted with each other and the pure, sisterly bond they seemed to have.
I’m not entirely sure how to explain how addicted to this book I felt. I truly did not know what to expect going into it, but the minute I started I felt like I couldn’t be torn away from the story. The concept is so intriguing that I just wanted more information, to know what was going on, what the Diviners truly were and if there was more to their duty, the Omens, etc. There was also this dark element to the book that completely stole my love because I adore any genre with a dark twist, and this one certainly had an insidiousness about it, underlying the motivations and the job Six has been tasked with. I truly had no idea where this book was going to take me and was desperate to find out.
The atmosphere is so hauntingly dark, and had a gothic air to it that I loved. When I say I went into this book with zero expectations I honestly mean it. I thought the premise sounded super interesting but had no idea how it would hit and was just planning to go along for the ride. So to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement and I’m so obsessed with how incredibly dark the story and the world itself ended up being. Suffice it to say I’m very excited for the next book and with the way so much was wrapped up by the end of this book I’m so intrigued to see where the story will go from here.
