One Lonely Outpost is an adorable sci-fi farming sim that kept my inner space nerd happy

I think this is game is pretty fantastic honestly. I absolutely adore this different little twist on your average farming sim, and taking it into space is quite brilliant and so satisfying.

It makes it just that little bit different than these other kinds of games, with the added bonus of having this sci-fi twist on everything, even farm related aspects (ie. different tools, building things such as solar panels for energy, etc). I was addicted so quickly and my inner space nerd was very happy. My only two complaints are pretty minimal and can easily be fixed by the time it’s out of early access. One, quite simply, I wish there was more. As it stands currently the story doesn’t feel long and I’m really sad about that. This leads into the second thing which is just that I kind of wish there was a little more to the story to bulk it up. What I mean by this isn’t as stated above in simply wanting more now, which is a matter of impatience. In this case, I mean just more story line actually happening at any given time.

For example, though there are a good deal of little quests to work on throughout, including the main quest, what I found while playing was that while I was waiting for certain things I needed to complete said quests (ie. waiting for a crop to grow, or needing multiple insects for a recipe that requires multiple days of hunting because you can’t get them all at once because there just isn’t enough spawn on any given day) was that there was quite simply just a lot of waiting around to be able to complete these steps. So having a more fully fleshed story that adds more to these quests or gives you something else to focus on while dealing with the slow burn of accomplishing quests, or maybe having more in depth interactions and quests to do specifically with the other colonists that made them more fully fleshed characters and created more to the story to immerse the player would help with this. Just more tasks to do that will fill up your time from day to day even, as a problem I came across was feeling like I had nothing else to keep me occupied throughout the day so I would just go to bed at 2 or 4 or whatnot.

There just isn’t the same amount to keep you occupied throughout the day and I want to see more of these kinds of things to make it more immersive and busy. But all said and done, I really am enjoying where this game is going and I cannot wait for more of it. As I said, my biggest complaint is that I don’t have more, now, and I just cannot wait to get more into the story and terra-forming a new planet and see where it all goes.

Definitely recommend for my fellow farming sim lovers out there!
