Rain of Shadows and Endings by Melissa K. Roehrich is a dark rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish that evokes such conflicting feelings.

This book is certainly not for the faint of heart because it has many dark themes and the characters do not have an easy path to follow which makes for much tension and anxiety inducing moments.

But it is certainly worth it for fans of dark romance, especially lovers of fantasy as well because the world building is phenomenal and so rich. My favourite part of this book is how creatively and flawlessly the author builds this whole world from top to bottom. There is so much detail and it’s fascinating to learn as the book goes on and I couldn’t get enough of it.

The characters are a combination of impossible not to love and endlessly frustrating. Tessa is selected to serve Theon against her will, and as a result fights against it in every possible way. Seeing the things she is forced to endure as she is put through this bonding is so hard to read at times because she has no choice in the matter and thus understandably fights against it at every turn. Theon and Tessa butting heads can get a bit tedious at times, but considering the circumstances it does make sense. The most twisted part is, with Theon’s points of view included, it becomes impossible to hate him because you start to kind of understand him which makes for such conflicting feelings. Luka was hands down my favourite character with his dry wit and sarcasm, and the way he and Tessa interact is so pure at times that I loved it.

This is definitely a series worth giving a read because it is absolutely rife with context and this first book really engulfs you in the world and gives so much information without being overwhelming or boring. I recommend this one to all my dark romance lovers because it’s a wild ride!
