This book is certainly not for the faint of heart because it has many dark themes and the characters do not have an easy path to follow which makes for much tension and anxiety inducing moments.

The world that is built up throughout this first book in the Verran Isles series was truly captivating and I loved every moment of getting to know this world.
The book picks up shortly after the end of the previous book in the series and the action starts up almost immediately as Nova is faced with a multitude of tasks with her new position as ruler of the underworld.
