Isle of Wrath by Claire Contreras is a promising start to a new romantasy series that had me intrigued by the city of Lunaris and the greater world beyond it, very early on.
The concept of a city separated from the rest of the world due to a centuries old curse was such a fascinating concept and had me sold on the book immediately. There are so many mysteries surrounding the world found in this novel, such as the fact that people are only granted entry should they agree to give up their memories from prior to living in Lunaris. This ignited my curiousity immediately as it begged the question of why people are not allowed to remember anything from their lives before coming to Lunaris and what could possibly be gained by removing their memories, and why people would be desperate enough for the sanctity of Lunaris to agree to such a steep price.
Although an interesting enough character, I found that Ada truly shone in moments with Malachi present as well. Their chemistry is wonderful and I enjoyed the two of them consistently butting heads throughout the course of the novel. Asa a result, I liked every scene that these two were together and wanted more.
I did find the big reveals to be predictable and thus didn’t find certain details revealed to be terribly shocking or any great revelation as they were to the main character. All together it was a good read, and I did enjoy seeing where it was headed. The ending leaves a lot of questions as to what will happen in the sequel, and I’m intrigued to find out more.
