I was not expecting so many laugh out loud moments from this book, but the witty words and the perhaps not so smooth actions of the characters had me genuinely laughing throughout this book.
Both Nolan and Andi were such endearing characters, and they were so relatable and real that I was completely invested in their story and interactions. I was so there for the wildly awkward moments they would at times have because they were so funny and honestly just made Nolan and Andi even more endearing as characters.
On top of the wholesome relationship between Andi and Nolan, there’s also the tumultuous and difficult relationship between Nolan and his absentee mother who is suddenly going through the deteriorating mental state of someone going through Alzheimer’s. This was somehow so beautiful and heartbreaking to read because Nolan has to deal with his resentment for her absence in his childhood and reconciling those feelings with a mother who is trying to be more present while also losing her memories and dealing with all the struggles that come with her disease.
The Bodyguard Affair has plenty of (the good kind of) tension, characters that were easy to love, and even a story that kept the pages flowing easily. Suffice it to say, I really enjoyed this wholesome romance and it was such a perfect read when I was wanting something fun.
